I'm just trying to play a sound.
In this post http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 23#p413723 you are looking at the recording device.

I assume that you are using "Built-in Output" for playback (?)
What are the settings for the "Built-in Output"?

I've tried with Terminal many times and nothing happens, only errors.
What are the errors?

What are you trying to record from? (Example: "recording from a Blue Yeti Pro USB microphone")

How on EARTH do you start a new topic?
As you are on Windows:
1. Go to the Windows forum: viewforum.php?f=46
2. Click on the "New Topic" button (on the left, just below the "forum rules")

Re: Multitrack for Windows DirectSound?

As far as I'm aware, MME is considered to be a "legacy component" (it originally dates back to the early 1990's) but is likely to be fully supported by Windows for a long time. It is the default "host" for Audacity on Windows because it is so widely supported (at least for mono /...

Re: Multitrack for Windows DirectSound?

I assume that you know that DirectSound is a deprecated software component of the Microsoft DirectX library?

Re: WSAPI error - -9996 and distortion

In the Windows Sound control panel, ensure that the Realtek device is set to "2 channels, 44100 Hz" in both the Recording tab and the Playback tab.

To open the Windows Sound control panel:
  1. open the run dialog with Windows logo + R
  2. enter: control mmsys.cpl
  3. press the OK button

Re: Blue Yeti - Not Recording Both Channels

Please post the "Audio Device Info" for both machines.
(See: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/hel ... stics.html)
Differences between the two may give us some clue as to what the problem is.

Re: Making volume conIsistent

when I record the piece, on playback the volume starts out relatively loud, then seems to adjust itself downward as the piece progresses. That can be caused by Windows Sound "Enhancements". See here for how to turn off all of the "enhancements": https://manual.audacityteam.org/m...

Code: Select all

GTK_IM_MODULE=audacity
Is it a real fix? What caused the problem to suddenly occur?
I don't fully understand this issue, but there's some information here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1876212
