Re: can hear MIDI but can't record it.

If I go into Audacity and hit the record button (to record "what I hear") There are various ways to record sound that is playing through the computer but Linux does not have a "what I hear" option. aplaymidi -p 17:0 somefile.mid For that to work you must have a MIDI renderer on ...

Re: Automate band demo creation

Here's a "Nyquist script" that can be run in the "Nyquist Prompt" effect (in the "Effect" menu). To use the script, select a complete track, then open the Nyquist Prompt from the Effect menu and copy and paste this code into the Nyquist Prompt text box: (setq clip-dur 2...

Re: Deleting Portion of Music Track

You have misunderstood a basic concept of how to use Audacity. Audacity does not directly operate on audio files. Audacity works with "projects". You can "import" one or more audio files into an Audacity project. You can record one or more tracks in an Audacity project. When you ...

Re: Automate band demo creation

I started recording our band. Single mic through an M-Audio USB interface. Quality is "good enough". During rehersal I create a single Audacity project and each song gets its own track. I'd like to automate: 1. Apply a saved eq to all tracks. While the project is open and contains all of ...

Re: No 'front line in' option new laptop to digital piano

It is disappointingly common for laptops to have rubbish sound cards for recording - even on very expensive laptops. For most users the only use of the sound card is for playing videos on YouTube and using a microphone for Skype/Google Voice and so on. In a highly competitive market, few manufacture...

Re: Should I use flat-top windows?

I am not using snd-fft, but rather, for each test frequency I convolve the sound with a period of the cosine. That is like doing fft with a rectangular window as long as that period and a skip of 1 but only calculating one coefficient. That's really clever. Sadly my mathematical knowledge does not ...

Re: PITCH OF VOICE PROBLEM

Yes but I dont think you understand that I can change the rate that my mic records in which is why i'm asking which rate is the best quality to record in music wise (A simple question) The best rate to use is the one that works best. This depends on many factors, including hardware, drivers, the ta...

Re: Audacity 2.0.5 and 24-Bit Recording

Then there's the complication that I don't think Windows natively manages 24-bit sound. Audacity is not able to record 24 bit audio using "WDM" ("normal" Windows drivers), but in principle WDM-KS and WASAPI for physical inputs should record genuine 24-bit data if the sound devic...

Re: Thanks for Audacity

Audacity 2.0.5 can be safely installed over the top of Audacity 2.0.0. If in the unlikely event you need to revert to 2.0.0 then you can simply reinstall 2.0.0 over the top of 2.0.5. It shouldn't be necessary, but I like to make a back-up copy of any plug-ins that I have installed before updating Au...
