Re: can hear MIDI but can't record it.
I just changed the "Input Device" to ADC Capture/Standard PCM Playback (hw:0.0) (whatever that is) and it now works ! Great - you're in business. One limitation of recording that way is that if any other audio programs are open then it will probably stop working. The "audio program&q...

Re: treat 385 mp3 files
Firstly, MP3 is a "lossy" format. In order to make the files small, MP3 encoding throws away some of the audio data and then packs the remaining data together tightly. Some audio quality is always lost when encoding audio into MP3 format. For Audacity to be able to do all of the cool thing...

Re: Suggestion for Ripping (?) old LPs
Everything actually seems to be properly working!!!! Hooray :D Where is this discussed? In the manual, online, or not at all? You're in luck. Several of the documentation team have done lots of vinyl to digital transfers, so there is a lot of documentation on the subject. If you already have the ba...

Re: Automatically joining clips end to end within one track?
I think that I mostly understand what you mean, but I got a little lost on some of the detail ;) Probably best if I just describe some of the Audacity features that may be useful for this job - you can then try these features and work out which ones help with your work-flow. I don't use Mac OS X. Wh...

Re: Formula to slow down audio with pitch correction
( ((original length) - (target length)) / (target length) ) * 100 = Percent Change ... (100 minutes - 75 minutes )/75 minutes * 100 = 33.3333333...% If the original duration is 100 minutes and the "target" (final) length is 75 minutes, then it must be playing faster ! I want to reduce the...

Sorry, I thought I'd already asked but I hadn't. I think I can guess the answer, but best not to guess at this point...

Re: Exported Spectrum overwrites existing file.
While it's probably a tossup, I think I would put this into the Warnings Preference panel That occurred to me too. It depends on whether you are looking to "stop the warnings about overwriting" or to "configure the export options". I decided to go with the latter because, like w...

Re: Audacity Audio/ Playback Problem
If you've not tried already, try rebooting your computer - shut down, switch it off completely then restart it (it's surprising how often that fixes things). Assuming that rebooting does not fix it: If you open Audacity and from the Help menu select "Audio device info". Wait a few moments ...

Re: Audacity Audio/ Playback Problem
The first part of troubleshooting problems is to gather as much information as possible about the problem.
So far, all we know is that the audio is terrible and playback is extremely slow.
Sadly that is not enough information to work out the cause of the problem or the solution.
