Re: Shepard Tone in Audacity?
There are many variations on the Shepard Tone effect. The important part in constructing this type of effect is to ensure that the end of the sequence matches the start of the sequence. The effect can be created from almost any sound as long as it has a discernible pitch. For a simple step-by-step c...

Re: Can microphone instability be compensated in Audiacity?
OK what about this method for automatic correction : use the level of an artifact , (e.g. a mains-hum harmonic), as a reference and expanding so it is constant throughout the recording, ( the assumption being it was constant amplitude and the variations are due to the AGC )? We're going a bit off t...

Re: Is Chris 1.2.6 still the best?
Chris's 1.2.6 dynamic compressor is still very good for spoken word and preferred by many to other compressors for this job. The 1.2.7 version was experimental and has some unresolved issues. I don't agree that "new" is always "better" (I know you didn't actually say that it was ...

Re: Can microphone instability be compensated in Audiacity?
The "automatic mode" problem [AGC] you describe , <snip> , may be correctable automatically, to some extent, using an "expander" I've never had success correcting AGC with an expander. Whenever I've tried to do that it has proved impossible to get the expander to track in synch ...

Re: Adding silent space every 30 seconds over 45 min MP3
Is this a common task when transcribing?
If it is, then I could easily make this into a plug-in so that you have sliders to set the various durations.
Is the additional "overlap" feature useful?

Re: Adding silent space every 30 seconds over 45 min MP3
It occurred to me that as you are transcribing and words may be cut off in the middle, it might be useful if there was a little overlap between each of the audio sections. So if you had: "The quick brown fox jumped ov// split //er the lazy dog" You can now have: "The quick brown fox j...

Re: Can microphone instability be compensated in Audiacity?
Does anyone know of a way to fix this? I'm expecting the answer to be "no". Theoretically it is possible to fix with careful application of the Envelope Tool (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/envelope_tool.html), but in practice it would be extremely time consuming and would probably ...

Re: Silent Subliminals without background
I'm interested in creating subliminals just below or on the threshold of hearing, many people suggest simply adjusting the amplitude by around -17 db. What are the benefits of using Nyquist over basic wave / amplification reduction (the Nyquist codes appear to adjust frequency rather than peak ampl...

Re: FLAC files and Level
Thanks for the follow-up WeirDave. My take on this: The Level 8 file size was 34,520 KB while the Level 5 was larger at 34,740 KB. That works out as about 0.6% difference in size, which I would say is "relatively little difference". This is a big contrast to lossy formats such as Ogg or MP...
