A simple distortion effect with 10 different types of distortion.
This is a "wave-shaping" effect. The waveform is shaped in various ways according to the settings.
Probably the best way to find what the settings do is simply to try it.

You probably need to enable source code for debian main non-free, though with all of those non-standard repositories I'd be very cautious about changing anything. There's always a strong temptation to enable lots of repositories, but if you want a stable machine it's advisable to resist. You may be ...

Audacity does not yet have multi-channel meters, though there is an existing feature request logged on the wiki ("Per-channel recording meters: Multi-channel recording requires one meter channel for each channel being recorded. ")

You could try asking Roger Dannenberg about extending the maximum size, but perhaps you would be better to use MatLab for such specialised work.

Split the stereo track, do the edit, then rejoin back into a stereo track.
