There is also an open source tool for creating Chapters in MP3s: http://id3v2-chap-tool.sourceforge.net/

Chapter markers are reasonably well supported fro AAC files. Apparently you can create them in iTunes (I don't use iTunes).

Weird, now I'm opening it with Audacity again I see it already had that silence at the beginning, but I definitely cut it off before I exported it. Then afterwards it came back. I don't get it... MP3 files always have a bit of silence at the beginning. It is one of the limitations of the MP3 format...
