Improved "leveling" for speech
According to my sources, the main use of the Leveler effect (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/leveler.html) is to "level" out variations in amplitude (reduce dynamic range), particularly for speech recordings. The manual describes the effect: Leveler is a simple, combined compressor an...

Re: pitch envelope
There is a "Time Track" feature that may do what you want: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/time_tracks.html

Re: Does Normalization Boost EQ?
The Normalize effect is described in detail in the manual here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/normalize.html Lots of information about "loudness" here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness Particularly relevant to this conversation is the "Equal loudness contour" http://e...

Re: How do I best sync tracks with different, unknown tempo?
So the best solution would be to re-extract the audio from the video but do it without screwing up the sound and synchronisation.Robert J. H. wrote:It seems that the video frame rate is simply misinterpreted somehow.

Re: Does Normalization Boost EQ?
Normalizing in Audacity (and most other audio programs) affects only the amplitude of the audio.
I can't speak for all other audio programs.

Re: How do I best sync tracks with different, unknown tempo?
"Frame rate" is about video, not audio. You can have two videos, one PAL and the other NTSC, both perfectly synchronised to identical audio tracks. I presume that the synchronisation problem is because one of the audio files was not extracted correctly. If the audio from a 1 hour NTSC vide...

Re: Request "mono" and "optimal output" on MP3 export screen
Having an "automatic" option that lets LAME reduce sample rate when bit rate is low and reduce bit rate when sample rate is low is not a bad idea, but users can already make these changes for themselves manually, or use Audacity's command-line exporter. If you want LAME to change the samp...

Re: Does make sense for the AUP file to hold metadata?
Support for metadata by Audacity is described in these articles: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/metadata_editor.html http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_opening_and_saving_files.html#meta Support for Album Art in Metadata is a feature request. Gale Andrews has already posted a detailed re...

Re: How do I best sync tracks with different, unknown tempo?
In theory it should be easy. I know. One track is PAL other NTSC. so a tempo correction of 24/1.001 / 25 = 4.095904096..% gets me into a precision of a few seconds / 100minutes. But I need sync. Use the "Change Speed" effect. You need to correct both the tempo and the speed. The "Cha...

Re: Noise Cancellation
could I record the unwanted sound and the inverted sound at the same time In practice, probably not. If you have two microphones that are specially designed (or adapted) to pick up minimal sound from the back, then you could tape them together facing opposite directions, on facing your mouth (assum...
