Re: cannot record
I've got a Kenwood component two-deck cassette, with the RCA outs plugged into the microphone in jack on the computer. I can hear the tape through my computer's speakers, so the signal is getting in to the machine. If I use the line-in jack, I cannot hear anything. You will need to use the "Li...

Re: Improved "leveling" for speech
New version of "Level Speech" compressor. LevelSpeech.ny Default Leveling amount 30%: default-30.ogg My assessment: Good amount of dynamic range reduction. The quieter versions are still noticeably quieter than the louder version, but much less difference. Louder versions sound a little &q...

Re: Improved "leveling" for speech
It occurs to me that the previous test audio is flawed in that we are comparing different words, so I've compiled a new test sample, The first part has short phrases repeated with a pause between each phrase. The first, third and fifth repeats have been amplified by -6, -12 and -18 dB respectively. ...

Re: IIR Equalization Audacity or Nyquist?
I was reading an article by Gary A. Galo, written for the ACRS journal. (He also has a web article, google him) in which he demonstrates that applying digital EQ curves that are based on FIR filters yields inaccurate results. I am not an audio engineer but the gist of it seems to be that digital EQ...

Re: RECORD VINYL TO COMPUTOR
Audacity 2.0.5 is the current and recommended version. It is not hugely different from 2.0.3 but there are quite a few improvements and bug fixes. You can install it "over the top" of your current 2.0.3 version (no need to uninstall the older version). Lame is required if you want to expor...

Re: Request "mono" and "optimal output" on MP3 export screen
Yes something like that is what I would have in mind, but we would have to have a far more powerful custom export dialogue, and I think the Advanced Mixing Options dialogue would have to be part of that custom export dialogue. There are other choice we want in there too like "no metadata"...
