Re: Constant White Noise regardless if mic is on or off

My issue comes in the form of constant white noise with my gtrack condenser mic. Is that the USB version? What settings are selected in the device toolbar ? Note that microphones and sound cards are never completely silent, so the best we can do is to help you set up the equipment to minimise the n...

Re: Strange error when exporting (MP3 and WAV)

It's because of the dots "." in the file name. File names are made up of two parts: the "name" and the "extension". By default Windows will hide the "extension" part of the name. Typically an MP3 file will be called something like "mymusic.mp3" where...

Re: Expander in the future?

Can anybody compare the numbers such that an expansion ratio of 1.4 on the dbx relates to a compression ratio of -0.XX on the plug-in? In the plug-n that I posted here http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=239829#p239829 a ratio of 2:1 is at a compression / expansion of about 25%. Try a set...

Re: Dithering noise in WAV files

"Dither" provides a trade-off between removing harmonic distortion caused by rounding 16 bit integer data, at the cost of introducing a small amount of hiss. Obviously the less hiss the better. In Audacity 2.0.5, "shaped" dither prevents harmonic distortion as well as any other d...

Re: Options Menu

There is still no answer as to whether these Options are excluded from Preferences or not, for example "Spectrogram window size" that you say should be in an "Options" menu but is currently in Preferences. I think it depends on how we view "Preferences". What and who a...

Re: Dithering noise in WAV files

If I export a file to the same bit depth as I started from with dither turned off, will it do any damage to my audio if I amplify it before exporting? Theoretically, amplifying with dither turned off will introduce a tiny bit of harmonic distortion due to 16 bit rounding errors. The purpose of dith...

Re: cut - shift left

Now, I probably made my life more difficult than I needed to. I put each clip on it's own stereo audio track, so the screen show the 12 tracks down the page. In a lot of ways that is preferable. That's the way I would do it ;) 'm looking for some way to (for example) delete 22 seconds of Track 4 an...

Re: Dithering noise in WAV files

How well does the latest version of Audacity work with JAWS compared with 2.0.2? I've not tried with JAWS, but I'd guess that accessibility for VI users should be improved in 2.0.5. I know there have been fixes for a number of accessibility issues. Has the bug where the playback speed button doesn'...

Re: Expander in the future?

Can anybody compare the numbers such that an expansion ratio of 1.4 on the dbx relates to a compression ratio of -0.XX on the plug-in? No, because it is not a fixed ratio in Chris's compressor. I presume that you determined that "between 1.2 and 1.4" produced the result that you most like...
