Re: is JACK recommend with Audicity??

The main issue with PulseAudio is that Audacity may freeze when starting or stopping the audio stream (starting or stopping Record or Playback). My understanding is that this is a bug in PortAudio's support for libpulse or libasound. If so, it should be followed up with PortAudio. I've never seen t...

Re: Manipulating Decibels

I heard back from ACX and they "approved" my resubmission, Congratulations :D During the lengthy discussions I've lost track of which version was which. Could you (re)-post a link to the version they accepted? I've been working on an analysis tool to highlight possible problems with level...

As Robert commented, the recording level is very low.

Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.

I like the "idea" of the box, but I don't think that the current box design is helping you. There is definitely more boominess in the recording inside the box. What is the box made of? Professional "portable booths" are often made with an "open" construction so as to NO...

Re: Default Sample Format; why higher than 16bit?

I was thinking: my ADC outputs 16bit, and my AIFF file will be 16bit. So why risk upconversion to 24 or 32 bit and afterwards a downconversion to 16bit. I thought the less conversions the better. Converting from 16 bit to 32 bit is totally lossless. Every 16 bit value has an exact representation in...

Re: Getting best quality audio from mp3 and mp4

But, be aware that you can sometimes get transcription errors if you burn the CD at a very fast rate (and some CD burner softwares default to high rates). This is often hardware related and can vary a lot depending on both the drive and the disk being used. I had one machine that always worked best...

Re: Default Sample Format; why higher than 16bit?

My question is this; if I do not apply any filtering -besides a fade out at the end of the recording- is there any need to have Default Sample Format on anything higher than 16bit? No, not really, though I know that with my record collection I would need to play the record at least twice for each r...

Re: Getting best quality audio from mp3 and mp4

For real time conversion, the default has medium quality, dither none. Why shouldn't I use best quality? Those settings only apply if you are playing a track that has a different sample rate to the "Project Rate". The "Project Rate" is shown in the bottom left corner of the main...
