Re: Audacity 2.0.5 on Ubuntu 14.04 w/KDE crashing
I guess I'd better give you the bad news :( (not that bad really :D) The default options that are set in Audacity are to use the system default sound settings, which these days generally means PulseAudio. That's great, if it works. PulseAudio allows multiple programs to share an audio device. It pro...

Re: Sync Drift from different Zoom Recorders
was thinking of a very simple, massively common (and therefore cheap as chips, ha ha) solid state device that would be completely self-contained, requiring no contact with the outside world or external services of any kind, that would simply make a timing mark on a video recording (a flash perhaps?...

Re: editing out background voice on running water video trac
1) Select the part of the track with the voice: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_selection.html 2) "Edit > Remove audio or labels > Split Delete" This will leave a "hole" in the audio where the voice was. 3) Select a part of the track with running water sound. Hopefu...

Re: AM and FM Tone Generators
Of course the 20kHz carrier is too high to be heard (maybe my headphones can not even produce it) Headphones should be able to produce up to 20 kHz, but you're right, if they can't then the 20 kHz carrier will effectively be filtered out before it even gets into the listener's ears. Then again, wha...

Re: AM and FM Tone Generators
Thanks for the excellent demodulator, it produced a very good quality sound even though I have not changed any cf value, but just pasted the unchanged code into the nyquist prompt and run it. To change the cf to 15500 would you have to add the following line to the top of the code? Actually, I (acc...

Log out of your computer, then back in again, then, without opening any other programs (not even your web browser), launch Audacity.
In the device toolbar, set the recording input and playback output devices to the "hw 0,0" option. Then try playing something. What happens?

Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.
A bit about limiters, since this has come up. (apologies to MichloIW if I was the one that "left you dangling" - this thread is progressing so fast that I don't like to interrupt ;)) Typically, a good, raw (unprocessed) voice recording will have a peak level of around -6 dB. (We recommend ...
