Re: Sample rate question
Windows 8 has a similar search where you may want to turn off the Bing advertisements, but at least you don't get the ads when you are just trying to find an app to launch. That was not my experience when I tried Windows 8. Within the first hour it had offered to sell me Microsoft Office, a DVD dec...

Re: Sample rate question
Is Linux Mint better than the Debian and Ubuntu? Mint and Ubuntu are both derived from Debian. Personally I prefer Debian, but I've been using Linux for a few years now so I know my way round it. Both Ubuntu and Mint tend to be easier to install and set up. Mint in particular is often said to be ve...

Re: I can't find the GLAME Bandpass plugins for Audacity...
"Bandpass filters" vary enormously in their frequency response. Some will have a sharp "cutoff" either side of the "pass band", while others will have a much gentler slope. If you have a bandpass filter that you particularly like, then it can be quicker and more conveni...

Re: I can't find the GLAME Bandpass plugins for Audacity...
You can create a bandpass filter using the Equalization effect. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/equalization.html
For example, settings like this will pass a band of frequencies between 1000 and 2000 Hz

Re: stereo recording
So once I have everything balanced and panned the way I want (assuming, for the moment, I'm not applying any stereo effects) basically, what is the next step in rendering all those tracks into L R Stereo so that it can be exported as a WAV or MP3? You don't have to do anything else. Once you have e...

Re: Sample rate question
Steve, the dual boot option is a good idea. But perhaps even better just to get another laptop or PC and use the one on the internet with Linux and the other with Windows. This way many problems will be solved. Just needs a bit of investments. If you go down that route you need not be limited to us...

Re: 4 track to stereo mix down
I went to the "tracks" position on the menu bar and clicked on it. Wrong menu. There is a "Tracks" menu in the main menu bar at the top of the main Audacity window. That's the menu that you clicked on. The menu that you need is the drop-down menu attached to the actual track. Cl...

Re: Recording several mics to separate tracks
Multi-channel audio devices may work in Audacity. It all comes down to driver support. Audacity is only able to access one recording "device" at a time. As far as Audacity is concerned, if that "device" has 12 channels then Audacity will allow you to record all 12 channels onto s...

Re: LAME for Windows 8
Try the instructions here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... .html#lame
I've just checked the links. The download site is a bit slow at the moment but it is working.

Re: Can I set a time limit on my recording?
Another way is: 1) Add a track (Tracks menu > Add New > Audio Track) 2) Select from the start of the track to the time that you want the recording to stop http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_selection.html (using the Selection Toolbar is an easy and accurate method) 3) Ensure Transport > O...
