Re: USB Audio Grabber

Is the device listed in the Windows Sound Control Panel as a working audio device? If not, then Audacity can't use it.

Re: Noob with volume questions

What about the 1 zillion little peaks? Will they get distorted when I turn it up? If you use the amplify effect more than the default settings then yes the 1 zillion little peaks will get distorted. This article explains why many old albums sound rather quiet unless you turn up the volume: http://e...

Re: Need advice on equipment - soundcard & preamp

If the Snowball is perfect for your needs, then there is no need to change it. The fact that you want to change to using a different mic suggests that the Snowball is not perfect for you. So the question is, what's wrong with it? What are you trying to fix? It's true that the Snowball offers little ...

Re: Declicking without Interpolating

Given that it is difficult to work with multiple tracks (and assuming clicks can be accurately detected), would it be possible to instead log the location and duration of the clicks to a file. Then use this log file to mute the clicks in one track, and mute everything but the clicks in the other? Y...

Re: Need advice on equipment - soundcard & preamp

I used a blue snowball usb microphone which I had lying around. I was always aware, however, that this was just a temporary solution because of the limitations of USB microphones. The Blue Snowball should give pretty good recording quality. What are the "limitations" that you are speaking...

Re: Can't convert from mp4 video to AIFF/WAV

Does that offer any more clues? Yes it does. The good news is that your set-up appears to be correct and fully functional. The bad news is that that particular MP4 video appears to either be corrupt, copy protected (DRM) or an unsupported format. Are you able to play that file in other programs? Wh...

Re: Blank spots recording Skype

As previously said, Audacity is not designed for recording Skype. Recording Skype with Audacity may work sometimes, but there may be problems due to the way that Skype manages the audio system, and Audacity has no control over that, so if it doesn't work reliably you would do better to find an alter...

Re: Can't convert from mp4 video to AIFF/WAV

Check that you are using Audacity 2.0.5 (look in "Audacity > About Audacity"). Audacity 2.0.5 is available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ If you are using the current version (2.0.5) and the problem persists, check that FFmpeg is working: 1) Record, import or generate some audio. ...

Re: Copying and Pasting Harmonies

I'm foggy on how that would work if you tried to copy multiple tracks. I've never tried that. As long as the number of tracks selected when you are pasting is the same as the number of tracks selected when you copied, it is all pretty straightforward and intuitive.#Ne tracks can be created from &qu...
