Re: Compressor vs SC4
Probably the biggest difference: SC4 does not use lookahead.

Re: Inserting pauses to aid transcription.
Wouldn't it be technically possible to have the plugin offer (another?) option to insert pauses AT SENSIBLE SPEAKER's PAUSES? Try this plug-in: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=247774#p247774 Suggestion: Why not a) show ACTUAL remaining time, or if too difficult to implement, b) DON'T ...

Re: Inaccurate documentation for compressor?
From Wikipedia ("upward" compression): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/29/Upward_compression.svg/220px-Upward_compression.svg.png This image appears to be incorrect, incomplete or misleading. It suggests (to me) that the lower left corner represents "silence"...

Re: "Wave Stats" plug-in
"Absolute silence" is "-infinity" dB. (minus infinity) What number is less than "- infinity"? The way that "- infinity" is represented by computers is different on different systems. On Linux it is represented as "-inf", on your system it is represen...

Re: reducing high pitch loud noises on audio track
Unfortunately there is very little can be done. The recording is so severely distorted that it is beyond repair.

Re: Best way to record two record sides to one wav/flac
The solution is to scan in sections and use Photo Stitching software to reassemble the image. I assume Photo Shop can do it, but I found a recommendation for FREE software at TechSupportAlert.com. I don't remember exactly what software I chose, but TechSupportAlert (AKA Gizmo's) is a great place fo...

Separate setting for downwards and upwards compression
It also appears to me that the upwardness or downwardness could really be independent of whether the envelope is defined by peaks or RMS, but the effect couples these features unnecessarily. I agree that coupling upward/downward compression to peak / rms is unnecessary, and confusing having "m...

Re: Inaccurate documentation for compressor?
I think these descriptions are inaccurate: Yes, as it says in the highlighted note immediately preceding the passage that you quoted: The principle of how each control works is described below. In practice the effect works internally in a rather more complex manner in that, as it processes the soun...

Re: Editing a song with video and Movie Maker
I'd probably just use a slow fade out at the appropriate point, and toward the end of the fade out, fade in the actual video soundtrack. Exactly where and how long to fade for is a matter of taste, but this is the sort of thing I'd aim for. (Using Audacity, the fade out was accomplished using the &q...

Re: Automatic Frequency Generation by Spreadsheet?
If this code is for a one off job, it would probably be easiest to just save the data as a plain text file on the desktop, then hard code the path to the file into the Nyquist script.
