You need to "split" the stereo track into separate left and right channels. The channels can be "stuck back together again" after you have completed your changes. See here in the manual for how to split (and rejoin) the channels: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/splitting_and...

Audacity does not ship with an effect called "VyNil", though as already indicated (2 and a half years ago), free Vinyl plug-ins that work with Audacity are available.

If you've not done so already, look in the Windows Sound Control Panel at the recording level for your device, and ensure that all sound system "Enhancements" are turned off.
