Re: Recording is just wrong

I get only cd quality. I doubt that you get as good as "CD quality" from most sources. On-line audio is usually much lower sound quality than a CD. To get audio from a video file, the best approach is to digitally extract the audio. For many file types, Audacity can do this by importing t...

Re: Music Recording?

The most important step in recording music, is to start with a good quality recording. If using "real" instruments (rather than synthesized), then using suitable microphones, microphone placement, and the recording environment are hugely important. http://www.soundonsound.com/ have some ex...

Re: Auto Export-Selected

I carefully select a small portion of a show and Export it. How do you do that? "File menu > Export..." Command+Shift+E Audacity insists on exporting the whole show unless I explicitly select Export-Selected. (In the voice of jean-luc) "Computer, save my work..... NO! Not all of it!&...

Re: Improving waveform dB vertical scale

And for someone like me, I have the scale set to -96dB because -60 is not low enough, but I really would prefer something in the -72 dB range. I'll love to see the "goldie locks" option: -60 is too small, -96 is too big, -72 would be "just right" I record audiobooks, and my room...

Re: Replacement for E-MU 1616

E-Mu is no longer in business. :( I know. I quite liked some of their kit. Regarding possible replacements, the fashion these days seems to be for USB audio devices without MIDI. USB can give low latency with appropriate drivers. For recording audio, most will give "zero latency" (the ana...

Re: Reverb settings

The default settings in GVerb produced a very strong and big reverb effect (so strong that many people found it unusable). The new reverb effect is much more subtle (a more "natural" reverb). So basically, to translate from GVerb settings to the new effect, you will need much higher / stro...

Re: Improving waveform dB vertical scale

Can you explain more? I don't know what you mean. Have you asked for that before? Same as the "normal" waveform view, but instead of the vertical scale showing absolute (linear) values, it shows dB values, as in the mock-up below. It may have been the first thing I ever asked for. dbscale...

Re: Improving waveform dB vertical scale

I have no idea how a patch file would be applied to the 2.0.5 version... To apply a patch it is necessary to build Audacity from the source code. Setting up a Windows computer to do that is quite a long and involved task, but not so on Linux (I don't know about Mac OS X). There are instructions for...

Re: changing imported mp3 joint stereo to mp3 mono through a

If you still have backup copies in WAV format, or as Audacity projects, then I would highly recommend using those rather than the MP3s for making the new mono files. MP3 is a "lossy" format - that is, some of the audio data is discarded so as to make the file smaller, thus encoding as MP3 ...
