Re: Vectorscope or equivalent
Adding some routing software and a 3rd party vectorscope app adds such a high level of complexity that it won't be used by just the people who are most likely to need to use it. I agree that is too complex for most users, but my video was intended purely as a demonstration to clarify what we were t...

Re: Allowing 'Compressed only' projects
Once you've 'thrown away' certain frequencies, you can't throw them away again simply because they're not there to throw away. Unfortunately it's not quite like that. The losses may be minimised by encoding at a higher bit rate (larger file size) than the original encoding, but "lossy" en...

Re: FFmpeg message suddenly appears after years of use.
Something analogous just happened here. I tried to record streaming. The original post is about an "Export"problem - nothing to do with "record streaming". If you have a question about recording streaming audio, please start a new topic so as to avoid confusion. This is exactly ...

Re: Constant crashes in Audacity
There is a known problem between PortAudio and PulseAudio when rapidly stopping and starting the audio stream, though this usually causes Audacity to freeze, not "crash". If the problem is "freezing" not "crashing", then there are a couple of ways to work around the pro...

Re: Allowing 'Compressed only' projects
2. Reopened compressed projects store their PCM data in the Audacity temp folder. Only OGG files are in the _data folder for the compressed project. When you save the project, the OGG files are overwritten. When you close the project, the PCM data is deleted. Reopening that project repeats the proc...

Re: Allowing 'Compressed only' projects
does this temp folder get deleted when a project is closed? Yes, unused temporary data is deleted, provided that the project is closed correctly (not just switching off your computer, which you should never do while a project is open). In the case of a "Compressed Copy", the audio data ex...

Re: export audio quality
I noticed that exporting to WAV results in a significant loss in quality. Check the settings in your media player. "WAV" format is "lossless", so the difference between 16 bit WAV format and the audio in Audacity is minute (less than -80 dB rms). Some players have "enhancem...
