Audacity passes sound from the selected audio track as the global variable "S" (may be "s" or "S", Nyquist is not case-sensitive). If there is more than one track selected, Audacity passes the first selected track to Nyquist, then the next track, then the next... So Nyq...

and I can hear it fine - i.e. no distortion - when I turn the speakers up How are you doing that? Where are your speakers connected? Do you mean that you're listening through speakers while recording with a microphone? That can cause problems because the mic will pick up the sound from the speakers...

To create a file that can be used in other programs you need to "Export" the song.

If you only selected audio it wouldn't matter. Either setting will work.

I was just wondering if it was a non-ASIO device that you could use Virtual Audio Cable or similar to duplicate the inputs of the single device and work round the application exclusivity that way. Apparently that is possible , but perhaps not very reliable. I've not tried that myself but I hear tha...

"Multi Client Wrapper" is the other way round - it allows multiple applications to access one device.

Does the problem occur if you only, start Audacity and then shut down Audacity? (without playing, recording or anything with Audacity)?
