Re: Export to Mono AAC
I've seen it suggested that the best AAC encoder available for Linux at the present time is the closed source Nero encoder Actually, I'm not so sure about that. I've run some tests using FFmpeg (Debian Wheezy version), and some of the results show better sound quality than the Nero encoder :o Unfor...

Re: New PSR S750
MIDI is not "audio". Audacity does not support recording or playing MIDI. Please see the link that Gale posted for further information.Tony Fendall wrote:I have never used MIDI, should I buy a cable and connect using MIDI R&L sockets at the back of the PSR S750?

Re: Export to Mono AAC
Nautilus properties says the exported file is stereo Nautilus seems to say that for all mono AAC files, even this one which was encoded with Nero AAC codec 1.5.4.0 (I've ZIP'd the file because .aac files are not allowed). mono-test-file.zip I think we can deduce that AAC support on Linux is still a...

Re: Basic audacity 2.0.5 features
Record the audio on my computer? (eg for instance if I want to play a DVD and record a particular sound) On some Windows computers there is either a "Stereo Mix" or "What U Hear" option that you can use. If your computer does not have either of those options, then (Windows Vista...

Re: Creating Accapella Versions
Just for interest - here's an easy example of "cancellation" that does work (totally useless, but proves the theory). 1) Open Audacity 2) From the Generate menu, generate a "tone". 3) With the track selected, press Ctrl+D to duplicate the track. 4) With only the second track sele...

Re: Creating Accapella Versions
That's NEVER going going to work.... I disagree (but only a bit ;)) The theory is fine, and it will work, but ONLY if the karaoke version is EXACTLY the same as the full version except for the vocal. That is, if both the full version and the karaoke versions were made from the same master recording...

Re: Getting clean crisp audio with Audacity and a Blue Yeti?
is it all based on what you are doing and how loud you will be? Yes. The killer is "clipping". If the recording is badly clipped there is no recovery. I presume that the Yeti has a clipping indicator of some sort (I don't have a Yeti) - probably a red LED that comes on when the level is t...

Re: Export to Mono AAC
For what it's worth, exporting a mono track from Audacity as M4A (AAC) on Debian Wheezy, produces a mono file. You could perhaps try exporting as WAV, then converting with "avconv". The command is: avconv -i input-file-name.wav output-file-name.aac If that works for you, then you will prob...

Re: Recording with Audacity.
For Skype, using a specialist Skype recording application is recommended. I've used Skype Call Recorder which has worked very well for me. However, if you only want to record your side of the conversation, then it should be possible to do so by selecting the microphone that you are using as the reco...

Re: recording signal from another program (Reaper)
I've no idea about "Edison" as I don't have it, have never used it, and it doesn't run on Linux. So let's talk about Audacity :D Can I open an instance of Audacity while running Reaper Yes. and record Reaper's output into Audacity Yes, but you probably don't need to. If you want some audio...
