Re: Typing in times instead of dragging mouse?
The general way is to use the Selection Toolbar http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/selection_toolbar.html That allows you to position the cursor / selection at an exact time. To move a track to the cursor position, use "Tracks menu > Align Tracks > Start to cursor / selection start". (fo...

Re: Can't record anything through MOTU Ultralite
First thing is to check in the Windows Sound Control Panel that the MOTU is recognised by Windows and enabled as a recording device, and that the recording level is turned up. If that is OK, launch Audacity (or close and re-launch if it is already open), and check that the MOTU is selected as the re...

Re: Martin Eastwood duet plugin
I'm not on Windows at the moment, but if I recall correctly I just put it into the Audacity plug-ins folder.geordiemick wrote:I couldn't find any vst folder. Where should I put gsnap?
(if the GSnap plug-in is in a ZIP archive file, you will need to extract the contents)

Re: Martin Eastwood duet plugin
I tried that VST in Windows XP (running in a virtual machine). The effect shows up in the Audacity effect menu, it opens, it looks pretty, but it doesn't do anything. As Gale wrote, this is probably because it is expecting live input. GSnap does (mostly) work (but without the MIDI or real-time featu...

Re: Attempting to Remove Vocals
Ok, so this seems easy enough looking at all the youtube tutorials (split tracks, invert one track, set both to mono, etc) There is actually an easier way to do that. All of those steps are rolled into one simple effect that is included in Audacity: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/vocal_remove...

Re: Output to softphone
Audacity is not really designed as an audio player. If you record your message in Audacity you can export the recording to create a normal audio file (such as a WAV file) that can the be played in program suitable for your needs.

Re: Audacity 2.0.6, slight length inconsistency
When Audacity exports in WAV format, the length is absolutely accurate down to the nearest sample. So if you export with a sample rate of 44100 Hz, then the exported length is accurate to the nearest 1/44100th of a second (about 0.023 milliseconds). It wouldn't surprise me if Windows reports it slig...

Re: Sample rate downsampling/upsampling explanation.
I suspect (but don't know) that Audacity's "high quality" conversion does use such a filter as that is one of the more common methods. As I previously posted, if anyone really wants to know the technical details of how Audacity does resampling, they need to look to libsoxr , not to Audaci...

Re: Sampling parameters do not change in exported files
I tried this and when I reload the exported file into Audacity it shows to be at 44.1K, but still says 32 bit float By default, Audacity converts the audio to 32 bit float on import. The exception to this is some compressed format which Audacity cannot (yet) convert automatically. When processing a...
