Re: How can I mix files?

Ensure that "Sync-Lock" is off (not selected) http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/edit_toolbar.html#link Ensure that you don't have all of the tracks selected. If all tracks are selected (highlighted) they will all move. If al tracks are selected, left click on a track with the "sele...

Re: "Show Clipping" Options

This file illustrates why we should show "clip lines" for single samples at or above 0 dB.

Re: "Show Clipping" Options

Not necessarily true, Steve. Show Clipping shows individual clipped samples that touch or exceed 0 dB but the meter requires four such consecutive samples. Of course you can find where the clip meter came on during a recording :? I doubt that koz sets his recording level anywhere near 0 dB. If the ...

Re: Recording from sound card at wrong speed. 48 vs 44.1 MHz

On Line streamed radio and sound from Youtube It is usually possible to "download" from YouTube, which is quicker, easier and may be better quality than recording. There is a choice of Add-Ons for Firefox to enable downloading videos. Audacity should be able to extract the audio stream fr...

Re: Is there a way to add "end points" within a recording?

Split the track into a number of separate files. If you want to play them in order, make a play list. See here for how to split a long recording into separate tracks: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/splitting_a_recording_into_separate_tracks.html There's some info here about play lists: http://...

Why not have a go yourself?
I recall that they have a download of the test tones and instructions available somewhere on their site, and you could post your results on this forum ;)

Re: Audacity no longer records anything

I want to join the two WAV files end to end. So, instead of two 20 minute WAV files, I have one long 40 minute WAV file. Import both files into Audacity. They will appear one above the other. Zoom out so that there is some space (you can do that using the "magnifier" tool with a "-&q...

Re: Can the performance of Nyquist in Audacity be improved ?

but going Linux isn't going to give an order-of-magnitude speed-improvement on the same hardware You'll need to be using a recent version of Audacity or it will probably be an order of magnitude slower! Building Audacity on Debian based systems is pretty easy, so no reason to not have the latest ve...
