Re: Raw import-export

The "something for which there is absolutely no purpose" was the most concise example I could think of that illustrated the behavior I didn't understand, not the actual use. I was only teasing ;) The example you gave is indeed the clearest imaginable. I'm helping a group of students with ...

Re: Is VS2012 supported at all ?

The full (paid) version of VS 2013 is not required. The free "Express" version should work fine. The switch to VS 2013 (from VS 2008) is very recent, so there are still holes in the documentation. I don't use Windows so I've no idea whether the current Audacity code will build on older ver...

Try increasing the playback level of what you are recording (and turn down the level of your speakers if you have external speakers).
If that doesn't work, use the Amplify effect when the recording is completed.

Re: "Show Clipping" Options

I think that the red line indicators should always show (when enabled) at 0 dB, even if it is just one sample. This is nothing to do with "real time", so the user can examine the parts indicated at their leisure. Koz want clip indicators to go off after a few seconds, but Edgar wants to be...

Re: Issue when changing tempo of a selection twice

Maybe its problem with ur drivers? It's nothing to do with drivers. when you select a fragment of an audio, and change tempo twice (select a section, then apply change tempo, and then again apply change tempo), the resulting fragment has a corrupt end: Yes, that's normal - not ideal, but normal. Th...

Re: Raw import-export

I do a raw import on some PCM audio data (16-bit signed 8 kHz), then immediately re-export in same format (raw). So you're saying that if you do something for which there is absolutely no purpose, the result is not what you expected. :D There is a very good reason for applying dither - for processe...

Re: stereo to mono amplitude

I record my shows in stereo Perhaps an obvious question, but if you want a mono show, why not record in mono? What are you recording? To directly answer your question, after changing a track from stereo to mono, you can use the Normalize effect to make the peak amplitude whatever you want (http://m...

Robert, can you please write steps out 1,2,3 for the bug. I can't understand exactly what you mean. I don't either. hold down dot (.) or shift-dot until you shoot over the right boundary It doesn't shoot over the right boundary. It stops at the end :? The play cursor/ selection moves to the end of ...

Re: sync-lock

Steve, this is a very useful set of tips. Is it worth working it up into a tutorial for the Manual? If so, I can do the groundwork on that starting with this as the basis. I would have thought it more "wiki material". Many of the tips would apply to any version of Audacity, or any other m...

Re: Physics Lab

I know what "amplitude vs. time" means with relation to audio signals, and what "sample values" and "sample rate" mean, but I don't know what you mean by "distance vs. displacement".
