Re: Highlight audio over a level
Tracks may also be made taller by clicking on the bottom edge of the track and dragging down.

Re: Highlight audio over a level
Assuming that you have recorded in the default "32 bit float" format, the audio may be amplified up and down as often as you like with no loss of sound quality. If you apply the Amplify effect with the default settings, it will amplify to a peak level of 0 dB. I expect it will then be easi...

Re: Size Of Edited Files
It will be the change from 16 bit to 24 bit that makes most of the difference to the file size.
After selecting "Flac" in the Export dialog window (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fi ... ialog.html) click on the "Options" button and set Flac export as 16 bit.

Re: ERROR in Plot Spectrum?
I just did it on a section of track that had audio imported from WAV file That'll be it. If the track was a stereo track (which I'm guessing it was), then generating a full-scale sine tone will produce two identical sine tones, one in each channel. The spectrum, analysis shows the sum of all select...

Re: low volume and hum using mic
You should not get hum from a Shure SM58 when plugged into a balanced XLR input unless there is something very wrong with your house electrics. Shure SM58s have been widely used as stage microphones for decades, and "on stage" is a very hostile environment for microphone signals due to the...

Re: Size Of Edited Files
They are 2-3 or more times the size they would be if they were mp3. Normally FLAC files are about 50 to 60% of the size of an uncompressed WAV file. MP3s are typically between 10 to 20% of the size on an uncompressed WAV file. So for a 16 bit 44100 Hz stereo uncompressed WAV file with a file size o...

Ideally, yes.Rick944S wrote:Shouldn't it return 0db?
If I generate a 440 Hz tone, amplitude 1.0, duration 30 seconds with all other settings in Audacity at the default values, I see a peak in Plot Spectrum that is very close to 0 dB.
What would I need to do to get the results that you are demonstrating?

Re: low volume and hum using mic
Would you expect a preamp to correct the hum? I've not been following this topic closely, but as I wrote several pages back (http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=263061#p263061) the SM58 should be used with a proper XLR lead into an XLR socket. How it works is that the microphone uses all ...

Re: How to record audiobook at home
I would like to find out how to set up individually labeled files for each chapter within the total project book. So as not to detract from the original poster's question, see this article and if you have further questions please start a new topic. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/splitting_a_r...
