I now see that the waveform is expressed in percentage; this is unfortunate since a db scale is much more useful. You can switch to the "Waveform (dB)" view if you prefer: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/track_drop_down_menu.html (Personally I'd prefer the standard "linear"...

There are strict requirements for file names imposed by the Windows operating system.

and in particular see the section about "reserved characters".

Are you 100% sure that you are not catching the spacebar?
What sort of keyboard do you have?
Are your keyboard or mouse wireless / bluetooth?
Does your computer have any other input devices, such as a track pad, wacom tablet, tracker ball...?
Are you using an ordinary mouse?
