Re: Suggestion (Bandpass Filter and Custom FFT Filter)
Your suggestion about varying the rolloff frequencies is a good one, and it could be easily remedied by writing other versions of the Nyquist plug ins -- no need to change Audacity binaries. Though is the filter is an asymmetric band pass filter, then either the centre frequency shown in the spectr...

Re: Suggestion (Bandpass Filter and Custom FFT Filter)
Band pass filters need not be symmetric, but often are, and in the case of frequency band selection in Audacity, the band pass filter is symmetric. The short answer is that the centre frequency is defined as (F0 * F1)^0.5 , where F0 and F1 are the lower and upper bounds respectively. The reason for ...

Re: Redacting audio with Audacity - Is it possible to revers
I am selecting the part to be redacted, then select Generate-->Tone. I leave the default as sine and select 1000 Hz as the frequency. and click 'ok' . That method does not "cover up" the original audio, it "replaces" the original audio. The original audio will be completely dele...

Re: Suggestion (Bandpass Filter and Custom FFT Filter)
I notice a problem in frequency selection in spectrogram in version 2.1.0. When you using the linear frequency display, for selecting the spectrum, it doesn't have the center frequency in the center. Instead it has it below the center. That is correct. The spectral selection is a fixed order high, ...

Re: 'Export Audio' will always default to .aiff extension
it much rather looked like a problem with the Audacity software itself... I'm using the unmodified source code and built Audacity myself, so I am 100% certain that the version on my Debian machine is the original unmodified program, as written by the Audacity developers. I do not see the problem th...

Re: Help for a complete beginner
The main problem is that the recording is far too quiet. As you are whispering you will need to get very close to the microphone. That will tend to boost the bass frequencies so ensure that the 80 Hz high-pass filter is ON. The 10 dB pad switch should be OFF. Then turn up the input gain on the Stein...

Re: time lapse tool
Please note that many YouTube videos show old versions of Audacity and features may be different from the current version. I don't know what you mean by "time lapse tool". Do you mean the Time Shift tool? Documentation for the current 2.0.6 version of Audacity is here: http://manual.audaci...

Re: How to amplify background audio? (Or any lip readers her
Audacity has an Equalization effect which is probably a bit more powerful than the one in VLC: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/equalization.html but I don't think that it is likely to help much. As a rule of thumb, if you can't hear what the person is saying due to other sounds covering it up, ...

Re: Trim Silence
Too bad it crashes, instead of just an error and/or warning to the user about the limitation. The version that I have gives an error: " Error. Max RAM usage by Trim Silence is set to 1 GB. This allows a maximum duration for a mono track at 44100 Hz of 1h:34m:29s. Selected track is 12h:0m:10s. ...

The plugin I was referring to is called "Pitch Detect".
