Re: Disable the Ability to Edit?
Hm, are you sure that there is any way to prevent editing of tracks which the students record? Give them keyboards that only have the "R" key and "Spacebar" and no mouse :? Only joking. ("R" is the keyboard shortcut for Record, and "Space" is the shortcut for...

Re: Suggestion (Bandpass Filter and Custom FFT Filter)
The revised text: When the spectral selection begins at 0 Hz this effect applies a low-frequency shelving filter with a rolloff of 12 dB/octave and with the half-gain frequency defined by the upper frequency of the spectral selection. The gain control sets the amount of low-frequency boost or cut. T...

Re: Suggestion (Bandpass Filter and Custom FFT Filter)
This instant slope is the maximum and only achievable for big gain corrections Yes, that's correct. I'd not really considered how much less the slope would be for small gain values as it's not usually important, but you are quite correct that within the working range of that plugin the 12 dB figure...

Re: Suggestion (Bandpass Filter and Custom FFT Filter)
BTW Is 6 dB roll-off correct? No, that was an error. The slope of the shelf filters is (approx) 12 dB per octave over the linear part of the transition slope. As for the roll-off, It is neither 6 dB nor 12 dB nor any fixed value. It depends on the actual gain. It may help to think of it as a hill. ...

Re: AIFF all caps won't export
Topic moved to the Windows board. Not sure which Audacity version. If you look in the Audacity Help menu > About Audacity, you will see a three-section version number. The current version is 2.0.6. If you have an older version, you can get the latest version from here: http://audacityteam.org/downlo...

Re: AIFF all caps won't export
Is this a question about Audacity? What operating system are you using? Which version of Audacity are you using? What exactly are you trying to do, and what is happening when you do that? For future reference, this forum board is only for general feedback and discussion about Audacity. Questions abo...

Re: it starts playing when i add markers
My primary concerns are: The risk of ruining an important recording, There is no way to turn it off, It can produce difficult to identify user errors (this topic shows one example where the user managed to discover the cause, but I expect that there are countless cases that go undiagnosed.) It ties ...

Re: Disable the Ability to Edit?
As you say, disabling editing in an audio editor contradicts its raison d'etre.
You could prevent editing of the pre-recorded tracks by making them read only, but I can't think of any way to prevent editing of tracks which the students record.

Re: How to remove snare drum ring from a recording?
I have the author of the research paper and application on the other line. Shouldn't we defer this doubt to him? Discussion about Audio DiffMaker is off topic and does not help the original poster resolve their issues. Your "cease and desist" suggestion has been duly noted. I am aware tha...
