Re: Right channel clipped when recording vinyl record
The PC is not a laptop. The lead plugs into the blue "Line-In" port on the back of the PC. Good - a "real" line in :-) When juggling the cables, I noticed that if I slightly pull the lead from the Line-In port so that it's not pushed in all the way, then both right and left chan...

Re: Set Audio File between -23db and -18db
If it is not supposed to display measurements below -60 dB then it still is a bug. Possibly. The problem is that WCAG v2 is not well defined (it presents "guidelines" rather than an actual "specification"). This is what WCAG v2 says (http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/#guidelines): 1.4...

Re: Set Audio File between -23db and -18db
Contrast seems to measure white noise on its own at -81 dB peak and gives a very similar RMS result to Sample Data Export. Yes it seemed to work - but that was a bug. The code was pretty clear in making -60 dB the minimum displayed value. The -60 dB limit was supposed to catch < -60 dB (including -...

Re: Right channel clipped when recording vinyl record
Setup: Turntable -> Phono Preamp -> PC Line-In I suspect that the preamp or turntable is at fault. Is there anything else that could cause this issue? I'd guess pre-amp, turntable, PC Line-in, interconnecting lead on connector. Yes I know that it looks like the problem is on the right (lower) chann...

Re: Normalize works in Preview but does opposite when applie
It is not a known bug in Audacity 2.0.5, and 2.0.5 is old now (the current version is 2.0.6) so it is highly unlikely to be due to a bug. Are you working with a single track project or a multi-track project? How are you listening to the recording? What are you doing different between previewing and ...

Re: Set Audio File between -23db and -18db
I agree, and that's one of the reasons why I think we need a new tool, but what I was saying was that the Contrast tool has never measured below -60 dB.kozikowski wrote: It's very good to know how far below.

Re: low volume and hum using mic
I already recommended the MXL 24-bit USB mic Is that because it is 24 bit, or for some other reason? I don't really understand the point of a USB mic using 24 bit (other than marketing hype). The SNR of the mic is probably in the region of -70 dB (MXL don't appear to publish that measurement), so 2...

Re: Set Audio File between -23db and -18db
The new Contrast in Audacity 2.0.6 can no longer be used to measure noise. I don't understand your point koz. It has never measured below -60 dB. In order to clear up some odd results, it now ignores silent patches when it measures RMS. It has always done that. The difference between the Contrast t...
