Re: Will not record

Other people have reported problems with Soundflower. Fwiw, Soundflower works for me, but yes you are right, a lot of people have reported problems with Soundflower. The original version of Soundflower is obsolete and no longer maintained, but there is a later version available from here: https://g...

Re: SilenceFinder cancels macro execution?

Works great! -unless, it comes across a file that has "no silence' to process (as it halts subsequent execution). Is that because it is waiting for you to dismiss the "no Silences Found" message? If you (manually) dismiss the "No Silences Found" message, does the macro cont...

I wonder why Audacity under Catalina has such sensitivity to permissions, while other audio-related applications (eg Garageband, Zoom, Jitsi, Musescore etc etc) do not.
Did you install those other apps from Apple Store?

Re: mp3 sounds distorted after imported to audacity

Another fix using VLC from the command line: cvlc "test.mp3" --no-sout-video --sout-audio --sout "#transcode{acodec=fl32 channels=1}:std{access=file,mux=wav,dst=test.wav}" The resulting file is 32-bit float and peaks at +16.415 dB (which is why it sounds so distorted with most de...

Re: Debug report

Normally Audacity will automatically detect FFmpeg when a compatible version is installed. :? You could try manually deleting Audacity's configuration files to reset Audacity back to default settings (again, since you have upgraded). Is there a way to copy and apply edit settings between sections of a recording that are in the same, or different, recording?
What settings do you want to copy?

Re: Humming on track for Podcast

I took at your files and you have what seems to me an enormous amount of 60 cycle hum. I tried using a low-pass filter, but I had better luck using the Noise Reduction feature, which removed most of it for me. There's also a hum removal plug-in available here: https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtop...

Re: Cleaning up: which order to use filters?

I'm still not sure whether to 'Amplify' before or after EQing. When I Amplify, I tend to go with the automatic max, by leaving the 'allow clipping' box unticked. Apply "Amplify" whenever necessary. The default settings will bring the peak level to 0 dB (the "legal" maximum). Man...

Re: Cleaning up: which order to use filters?

So there was a mention of EQ boosting the volume, I think. I can imagine that happening if I boost the big lower frequencies for example, like bass guitar etc. And if that's the case, should I just make sure that nothing in the wave goes red? If it does go into the red, just run "Amplify"...
