Re: Compare samples and generate EQ profile
What I'd like to do is record a sequence of tones that align with the EQ sliders, upload it, capture the degraded playback from them, compare the files, and create an EQ profile that zeros out the effect they are applying. Idea: Generate a sliding tone (a "chirp" http://manual.audacitytea...

Re: equal loudness curves, plot spectrum, and dB levels
Ooh, lots and lost of questions :D Simple things first: The abbreviation for Hertz (cycles per second) is Hz (upper case "H", lower case "z"). I’m anticipating that someone will say “just use your ears, son,” Ultimately, "yes". For music, the all-important question is &...

Re: Hz Conversion
Your question does not actually make sense. 440 Hz and 432 Hz are frequencies . Sound that is 440 Hz can hardly be described as "music" because 440 Hz audio is just one single "tone" (see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/generate_menu.html#tone) What I assume you mean is: Is...

Re: Import without drag and drop?
The thing is that Audacity is purposefully and unashamedly designed for editing audio in a graphical environment. For editing audio in a command line environment there are other applications designed for that purpose (such as SoX ). Of course, at the core of Audacity it is all about number crunching...

Re: M-Audio Fast Track USB + Shure SM57 + Audacity setup?
The Shure SM57 is a good solid "instrument" mic. They are usually extremely reliable. Even though the "head" of the mic may appear to be a bit a bit flimsy, they are actually very robust. For recording electric guitar / bass, if I can get a good sound from the amp then I generall...

Re: Multi Track question
I will save the edited files in MP3 format. Then, I will use Roxio Creator to create a standard audio CD. A fine distinction, but an important one is that Audacity only "saves" as "Audacity Projects". To create a "normal" audio file (such as WAV or MP3) you need to &qu...

Re: Recording with Windows Wasapi
Due to the prevalence of software synthesizers in DAW applications, online articles and discussions frequently place a great deal of emphasis on the issue of "latency". However, as Audacity is not a host for software synthesizers, the issue of latency is usually not an issue at all. For Au...

Re: HELP! Recover a track
The "Save" command produces an Audacity project. To create a normal audio file you would use the "Export" command. Audacity does not allow you to save over an existing "project", though (obviously) it does allow you to save the current project after you have made change...

Re: Specifiy amount of blending from stereo to mono?
There is an optional plugin called "Channel Mixer" that can do this. It includes a preset to "narrow the stereo" (which is what you want to do). Download Channel Mixer from here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Channel_Mixer Installation instructions: ht...
