Re: Volume vs Gain?
See, this is what I’m trying to wrap my head around. I AM exporting wavs that are well beyond clipping. Red lines everywhere. But when I listen to it, it doesn’t sound bad! Let us hear a bit of that. Select 2 or 3 seconds of good sounding red lines everywhere audio, then "File > Export Selecte...

Re: Recording one channel only
the last track on the Beatles' Abbey Road is a short ditty called "Your Majesty" which pans across both channels. That's an easy one to verify. Your screenshot shows that Audacity is recording 2 channel (stereo), but as I said previously, it will only really be "stereo" if Audac...

Re: Newbie trying to share files - they won't open
Audacity projects are not just single files. They are made up of a "project file" and then hundreds or thousands of bits of data in a "_data" folder. To open a project you need both the project file and the data folder and the two need to be kept together. See here for more infor...

Re: Recording one channel only
Although the legend below Audio Track indicates it is recording in stereo, Assuming that you mean here: trackpanel000.png Then that means that Audacity is recording 2 channels (stereo), but of course it will only really be stereo if Audacity is receiving stereo sound from whatever you are recording...

Re: Crackling Sound When Recording (No evidence of clipping)
I don't use Macs, but it looks like the problem is in your Mac, so we'll need to wait for one of the Mac guys. The first thing they will ask you is exactly what type of Mac you have (model number?) and which version of OS X. You can save a bit of time by posting that information now. The next thing ...

Re: GSnap vst plugin is not shown in effects
Have you scrolled down the Effect menu far enough? Plugins are listed below the dividing line (built-in effects are above the dividing line).

Re: Windowed-sinc filter (steep cut-off filter)
Alternatively, the FIR high/lowpass filter can take the (geom.) center of the selection as cut-off frequency, which will also result in a complementary pair. I like that idea. That would make a good effect all on its own - possibly called "Spectral Crossover Filter"? - where the crossover...

Re: Windowed-sinc filter (steep cut-off filter)
However, controls can't be greyed out, depending on another control (Something for Version 5?). That's something that I am very much hoping for in version 5 ;) I would like to have all those spectral edit effects gathered in a separate menu, where they could be split up into the different types. So...
