Re: Volume vs Gain?
But if you read some of the sources in the other link, you can find engineers going into detail about how they actually go about it as a deliberate choice, Sure, but I've heard all sorts of abominations holding high the flag of "mastering" ;) But for the time being, I am not afraid to all...

Continuous wavelet transform: A method of spectral analysis far beyond FFT. Can develop an accurate time/frequency plot from signal for doing time selective filtering, artifact detection, all manner of signal/noise separation. A "transform" is a mathematical operation, just as addition, m...

Re: GSnap vst plugin is not shown in effects
SP3 is available from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389), but that will only update your operating system from an "ancient obsolete" system to an "obsolete" system. You should really give serious consideration to upgrading to a modern and secure operating system a...

Re: Fixing clicking in existing recording
Despite Koz' misgivings earlier in this thread I ran the posted sample through ClickRepair and it gave pretty god results I'm not sure that I'd describe it as " god results", but it's an admirable attempt ;) It still sounds a bit weird, kind of "bubbly", but much less distractin...

Re: Volume vs Gain?
My reading of that Sound-on-Sound article was not that it was advocating digital clipping, rather that it was warning of the dangers, but saying that you may sometimes get away with a bit of clipping on some types of sounds (which is pretty much what I've been saying ;)). Generally "soft clippi...

Re: Recording one channel only
Just in case you have missed a setting, these are the setting up instructions from Ion: http://www.ionaudio.com/usb-turntable-and-cassette-faq#Playback_and_Recording (I'm not very hopeful, it is definitely looking like a fault in the turntable's electronics). because the low level output (which I tr...

Re: Volume vs Gain?
I'm not sure how you have managed it, but you have defeated the magic of 32 bit float format. The peaks are entirely "chopped off" at 0 dB. I presume that at some point in the process the audio has been converted to an integer format. This is a close-up of your audio sample: firsttrack003....
