To totally remove silences, you need to truncate silences to zero length.

Re: Diffing audio - help me figure out what's going on?
To do that, I inverted one of the tracks and then mixed the two tracks together and rendered it into a separate track. It produced a flat line, which probably means that the inverted track and the other track cancel each other out, and therefore, the tracks are equivalent. If the result is "ab...

Re: AUDACITY CRASHS ON EXPORT
This isn't a known problem, so we need to work out why your setup is behaving differently from everyone else's.
What settings do you have in "Edit > Preferences > Extended Import"?

Re: Low input volume when recording from USB?
I have the correct Behringer ASIO driver installed. Due to licensing restrictions, Audacity cannot be distributed with ASIO support, so Audacity will be using standard Windows drivers rather than the ASIO drivers. That is unlikely to be a problem for your purposes. There is no control over the inpu...

Re: AUDACITY CRASHS ON EXPORT
Where are you exporting to?
Exporting to external drives can cause problems, especially network drives.
Exporting to a location for which you do not have full read/write permission will fail.

Re: how to record on multiple tracks in same project
it plays/records the content of the previous track rather than recording something my system is playing from somewhere else. It sounds like you have set things up so that Audacity will record what your system is playing, so (obviously?) if Audacity is playing a previous track while recording, that ...

The current version of Audacity is 2.0.6.
The latest version is always available from the official Audacity web site: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Re: Adusting Record level when using USB input to Audacity
I am using a USB recorder box that has stereo inputs but only one gain control. That sounds rather odd. What is the make/model of the device? I have no mixer facility but surely there is some adjustment in the Audacity system to individually adjust stereo levels when using the USB input? Audacity d...

Re: Label problem
I can't quite follow what exactly you are doing, but perhaps the following information will help. Labels are positioned by times in seconds, accurate to six decimal places. Audio edits are accurate to "one sample period". The smallest time unit for audio is one sample period. If you zoom i...
