Re: Error while commpiling: FFmpeg
Try configuring with the option: ../configure --disable-dynamic-loading To be on the safe side, run this first: make distclean To ensure that all dependencies are available, run: sudo apt-get build-dep audacity You will probably also need cmake installed: sudo apt-get install cmake The "step by...

Re: Just flatlines while trying to record a song playing on
Assuming that you are using Windows Vista or later, try using the "WASAPI loopback" method described on the page that Koz linked to (that method tends to be the most reliable, but is not available on Windows XP).

Re: I'm not getting very far with my project
Try Exporting as a WAV file ("File menu > Export Audio").
Avoid using dots or other special characters in the file name.
Does that work?

Re: audio unit effects
As you have recently updated from 2.0.6 to 2.1.0, please recheck that it actually is 2.1.0 that is running by looking in "Help > About Audacity". Also, check (or re-check) that AU type effects are enabled in the Effect preferences (Edit > Preferences > Effects) http://manual.audacityteam.o...

Re: Lose Debate, Post Last Word, Lock Topic, Erase VOTE?

Yes that is often the case. There are different schools of thought about this, but in my experience a little bit of processing can often make a big improvement, but a lot of processing can often do more harm than good.dev wrote: Best was always to leave them alone as much as possible.
Re: recording
You can find the 3 digit version number by looking in the Audacity Help menu and selecting "About Audacity". If it is the current version it will say "Audacity 2.1.0". I can copy music from computer if I use the plug in on the front of my computer. What is it that you are pluggin...

Re: deamplify peaks above a threshold
In general, can I apply it (Limiter, compressor) multiple times, or should I better undo and enter a bigger 'Limit to' value? That's not really a question that we can answer as it depends on the audio that you are working with. Too much compression and/or limiting will sound weird, but with difficu...

Re: deamplify peaks above a threshold
A "limiter" is the proper tool for the job, but not a "clipping" type limiter. Try "Limiter 2" from: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Limiter_.282.29 Installation instructions: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Download_Nyquist_Plugins#install N...
