Re: Hopelessly Idiotic - Dictaphone Help!

You need to set the "recording input" in the device toolbar to the device that you want to record from. That may be called "line in" or "mic in" or something else, but NOT "Sound Mapper". This may not work very well - it depends on your sound card. For many la...

Re: Recording Quality via Speakers and Dual headphones

In the oldest versions of Audacity that I remember, this feature was called recording "What U Hear". That was not a feature of Audacity, that was a feature of your sound card drivers (probably under Window XP). "What U Hear" was a feature commonly found in SoundBlaster cards on ...

Re: Missing Track?

It looks like the left channel of your tape deck is not connected.

Re: Can't record from cassette player

You should not normally write user data to the root folder. Unless you are logged in as an administrator Windows will not usually allow you to do so. Try saving to your Documents folder or to your Desktop. Also, please try to avoid posting massive images in your posts. Images up to about 500 pixels ...

Re: Can't record from cassette player

Check the location of the Audacity temp folder. Look in "Edit > Preferences > Directories". What is happening is that the temp files (the actual audio data) is either not being written or is being deleted, so the waveform only exists for the few seconds of data that are cached in ram. The ...

Re: static on playback

I believe the answer from gmorehou (gordon-z) at https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1450779/comments/1 is correct. That would be my guess, but then there is no reason that it would be specific to FLAC files. I would expect the problem to occur with tracks that were imported from any supporte...

Re: Saving to MP3 with LAME on Audacity 2.0.0 Windows 7

We are not lawyers, and the patent / copyright issues around MP3 technology remain horribly complicated and controversial. This is what Wikipedia has to say on the issue; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3#Licensing_and_patent_issues Personally I prefer to avoid the whole issue by using open formats w...
