Re: How to perform vertical expansion of Wave
The feature I am referring too is "Amplitude gain" "Amplitude gain" is in effect "amplifying". Increasing the amplitude gain makes the sound louder. You can change the "gain" using the "gain slider" (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audio_tracks...

Re: "Recording" tab is grayed out (pavucontrol)
Selected capture device: 2 - HDA Intel: ALC889 Analog (hw:0,2) Selected playback device: 14 - default Your recording ("capture") device is currently set to "HDA Intel: ALC889 Analog (hw:0,2)". That sets Audacity to record directly from the hardware (via ALSA) and bypasses PulseA...

Re: "Wave Stats" plug-in
Still what would be really nice would be a primitive call written in C++ (or whatever the native language of Audacity is) that efficiently went through a sound and return the sum of the samples, the sum of the samples squared, the max and the min. In version 4 plug-ins we now have (get '*SELECTION*...

Re: ..How audacity is saving my day..
The Time Track changes the playback speed, so it affects both tempo and pitch.
If you wish to "slide" the tempo without changing the pitch, use the "Sliding Time Scale / Pitch Shift" effect: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sl ... shift.html

Re: How do you get this effect?
Mostly Echo effect + Reverb. Probably the best way to achieve this type of effect is to use multiple tracks. Use Ctrl+D to duplicate a track. Use Amplify to reduce the level (mixing multiple tracks adds the sounds together, making it louder and possibly clipped) Leave the first track "dry"...

Thanks for the contribution philnice.
As this is mostly about "production values" I've moved it to the "making music with Audacity" section of the forum.

Re: import format
How do i see what exact format I import. Not with Audacity. I don't use Mac OS X, but for Windows and Linux you can right click on the file and view "properties", or for more detailed information use a third party application such as MediaInfo, dBPowerAmp or QuickTime. I want to make a ex...

Re: Temporary files
The "factory default" is in
/var/tmp/audacity-username
where "username" is your login name.
It is configurable by going to "Edit > Preferences > Directories"

Re: Layout: Half-height meters
See here in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/me ... tml#choice
Note that earlier versions of Audacity only had the full height "Combined Meter Toolbar". To check the Audacity version, look in Help > About Audacity.
