Windows XP is well past its sell by date.
Yes, Audacity is available for Linux (that what I use).

If you are running Linux on an old / low powered machine, I'd suggest using a lightweight version of Linux, such as the "Mate" version of Linux Mint.

it moves all 3 at the same time. That's because all 3 are selected. If you click on one of the waveforms it will remove the selectedness (un-highlight the waveforms). You will then be able to drag audio clips individually (provided "Sync-Lock" is not selected). See here for more info abou...

Audacity looks for available device when Audacity is launched. It does not look again unless you tell it to. Generally it is best to connect the USB device before you launch Audacity, otherwise you will need to tell Audacity to rescan for audio devices (near the bottom of the Transport menu) after y...

Don't use MP3 format. This is a limitation of the MP3 format (and some other compressed formats).

WAV, AIFF, FLAC and OGG do not have this problem.
