Technically this is an easy change.
The hard part is deciding where to put the option and what to do in the case of systems that support more than 2 channels.

Re: Bug: default sample format ignored for imports

I think the whole thing is a hornets' nest Indeed it is, which is one reason why it should be logged somewhere and not brushed under the carpet ;) Probably there should be a Wiki Proposal to sort out the behaviour we want and to decide what is practicable. I agree, a wiki proposal should follow, bu...

Re: Bug: default sample format ignored for imports

It would be a shame for this disappear into the long grass.
I think that it should at least be logged on bugzilla along the lines of:
Bug: Default sample format ignored for some imported file formats.
and a link to this topic.

Re: "Split stereo to mono" apply to all tracks simultaneousl

Moved the initial request to Wiki>Pending Feature Requests. I seem to have missed this topic first time around, but it occurs to me that it might be beneficial for Audacity to provide an option to record 2 mono channels . That would be ideal for those users that wish to record two mono sources at t...

Re: Audacity crash when opening Plot Spectrum

Some "crash issues" with Plot Spectrum have been fixed in the development code for Audacity 2.1.2, so it should be more stable in the next release. There are still some issues in Plot Spectrum to be tackled, so we should see further improvements over the next couple of releases.

Re: White Space

There is a workaround We've covered that ;) but I agree with daddydub that this should be a feature - in fact, it was a feature in very old versions of Audacity . Clearly someone though it better to not include leading white-space (I don't know who or why), so I guess that it should be an "opt...

Re: Static or crackling noise while speaking

My guess is that you have recorded too loud and that is causing the audio to "clip" (distort). If that is the case, there is no effective "fix" for it - you have to record (again) at a lower level. When setting your recording levels, aim for a maximum peak level of about -6 dB on...

Re: Unable to import large (500MB) WAV files

does Audacity store it at greater than WAV resolution?! By default, Audacity works with "32-bit float PCM" format, (double the disk space of a "normal" 16-bit WAV file, but virtually perfect processing precision). By default, Audacity maintains an "Undo History" until ...

Re: Bouncing audio files

Can't you also generate a silent track under the whole performance Yes you can, and that will work so long as the generated silence starts at time=0.0. There is nothing "surgical" about the steps that I described - The silence does not have to exactly fit into the white space, it just nee...

Re: Bouncing audio files

Unfortunately Audacity no longer includes "empty space" at the start of tracks in the exported file. The workaround is to put a bit of "silence" at the start of the track. If you want "absolute silence" (no "room tone") at the start, just select a bit of the e...
