Re: Basic: how do I create a project?

I get the error message, "'Save Project' is for an Audacity Project, not an audio file. . . ." That is not an "error" message. That is just "informing" you (a "warning" not an "error") that it is creating an Audacity Project (and not an audio file).

Re: 192 Bit Rate

I can't figure out how to get it to 192 bit rate I presume that you mean "192 kilobits per second MP3" (192 kb/s or 192 kbps)? If so, then as Gale wrote, click the "Options" button in the Export dialog and select "constant" in the "bit rate mode, then select 192kb...

Re: Distortion when noise removed

Update to the current 2.1.1 version of Audacity from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/.

Use the (new) "Noise Reduction" effect. Here is an example using settings of 48, 3, 4

Re: Problem with vocals doing vinyl to CD conversion

We are all assuming that the left and right channels are out of phase with each other. We can easily check if that is the case if we can test a short sample from one of your recordings. Please post a short audio sample in WAV or FLAC format to demonstrate the problem. Just a few seconds will do. See...

Was that with "arecord"? If so, could you post that recording so I can see if the notches are "exactly" the same as you get with Audacity.

Re: Why does the Zero point appear outside the window?

Imported files are aligned to start at time = 0.0.
If that appears to not be happening, please post a screenshot to show what is happening.

Re: Why does the Zero point appear outside the window?

Do you mean on second and subsequent tracks? Are you "overdubbing"? "Latency compensation" pushes the second and subsequent tracks a little to the left so that they line up correctly with the first track (accounting for latency). The track may be moved using the Time Shift tool. ...

Re: Loss of quality using EQ

I downloaded 2.1.1 before writing you, but it fails to work on my machine. The program opens and immediately closes again. There is an error reported the first time you try, but it flashes by so quickly that I can not read it. That's why I'm using 2.1.0. I don't use Mac, but perhaps that's the &quo...

Re: ReplayGain

It does not use the ReplayGain system, that tags audio files with volume information. "ReplayGain" is an algorithm for measuring perceived loudness . Passing that information to the player via "tags" is one method of applying ReplayGain. However, not all applications support Rep...

Re: Amplitude

The "Amplify" effect will change the amplitude of the selected audio. Amplify by a positive number to increase the amplitude, or by a negative number to reduce the amplitude: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/amplify.html
