Re: Latency issue
The current version of Audacity is 2.1.1 and it is available here: http://web.audacityteam.org/download/mac I'd suggest that you remove your current version and install the 2.1.1 version. I'm not on Mac OS X, but I thought that libsoxr should be enabled on all platforms - perhaps koz or Gale can cas...

Re: download legacy version?
The name "Chirp" does not really describe the effect very well. With the default settings and no track selected, the sound should be a rising tone lasting 30 seconds (not what I would call a "chirp"). What happens if you import a "known to be good" audio file into Audac...

Re: recording time offset
i don't really do any overdubbing Then I don't see why this is an issue for you at all. The Audacity default settings should work perfectly well on Linux. The default sound system on Linux (PulseAudio) has greater latency than Audacity (and the latency in PulseAudio is not consistent), but is still...

Re: Latency issue
In "About Audacity" it says that the core libraries are disabled. That could be important. If it says that "Nyquist" is disabled or not available, then you have not installed Audacity correctly. In this case you will need to remove Audacity and reinstall the DMG according to the...

Re: recording time offset
With Jack Audio, I can get the latency down to a hardly noticeable 23 ms on my budget laptop, though I usually use it with 46 ms latency. A well tuned higher spec machine should be able to manage about 11 ms. Using the "latency correction" method previously descibed, even my old laptop wil...

Re: download legacy version?
For Linux we only provide source code. Most Linux distributions provide binaries in their repositories. Building an old version of Audacity on a modern Linux distribution is likely to be highly problematic due to incompatible library files. Tarballs for Linux all the way back to version 0.91 are ava...

Re: Audacity won't start :(.
Have you previously had other versions of Audacity installed on this computer?
If so you may need to uninstall it/them first, then reinstall Audacity and select the "Reset Preferences" option during the installation.
