Re: Problem with *.wav play time file inside audacity
I open this file with audacity version 1.3.8.0 There isn't an Audacity version 1.3.8.0. The Audacity version number found in "Help menu > About Audacity". There was a version 1.3.8 but that is long obsolete. The current version of Audacity is 2.1.1 and it is available here: http://web.aud...

Generally it's a bad idea to overwrite the source files. If you do and you make a mistake, then the source file is gone forever. Also, you can run into issues because of "dependencies". See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_projects.html#dependencies You also need to be carefu...

The content will all be offered free of charge You may be interested in Librivox https://librivox.org/ and run it through an "equal volume filter" as sometimes my voice is a bit louder or the mike position a bit different. Don't expect too much from an "equal volume filter" (aka...

I know you didn't. I wrote that to clarify the point for LurrellSang.cyrano wrote:I never wrote that, Steve.
I think that we can end this discussion unless LurrellSang requires any further assistance with this.

ZIP isn't "lossy" compression". As koz described, it's a bit like "vacuum packing" for data. Windows didn't get the ability to compress to ZIP until XP. As far as I'm aware, Windows 10 still does not support modern file compression methods such as 7-Zip without additional so...

Re: Is it worth going to 64 bit xp?
If the computer does not go on-line then you could just stick with XP until it becomes so outdated that it won't run programs that you want to run. Audacity still works on XP (provided that you have SP3, and the computer has SSE2), but XP support won't last forever. Desktop Linux really works best w...

Re: Is it worth going to 64 bit xp?
You could try Linux. If your computer has a CD drive, then there are "Live CD"s available for several versions of Linux that run directly from the CD without writing anything to the hard drive. Running from a CD is rather slow, but it's a good way to try out Linux to see how it works. It's...

Re: Is it worth going to 64 bit xp?
XP is obsolete, so it's definitely worth updating your operating system.
64-bit operating systems tend to be more demanding on computer resources, and only work on 64-bit hardware, so if you are wanting to use an old computer it's probably better to stay with a 32-bit operating system.
