Re: Balancing levels

It does sound like (no pun) balancing RMS is a good way to go. as I wrote, the advantage of normalizing RMS is that it is easily verifiable, but the disadvantage is that it ignores the effect of frequency, and that can make a big difference to perceived loudness. On the other hand, the ReplayGain a...

For how many years has that option been the only other option other than opening the metadata editor before each exported track?

Re: Amplify fade-in/out

The envelope tool only allows slight amplification (double at most). but it does allow a great deal of attenuation (amplifying to a quieter level). Rather than making the quiet bits louder, you can make the loud bits quieter, then either use the track Gain control to bring up the overall level, or ...

Re: Last recorded track overdubbed onto new recorded track

I have tried with Transport > Overdubbing on and off with the same result. Software Playthrough is off Both of those options will prevent the first track from being "recorded" into the second track, but after recording a second track, you will have 2 tracks, one above the other, and when ...

Re: How to register a translator account for Audacity Manual

That address is certainly not a dead account, but it is not an email support address (this is clearly said on the Audacity website). There is an "auto-response" to emails that are received at that address, which states that the email has been received. Bug reports and non-support issues ar...

Re: Balancing levels

I want different signals to sound equally loud by some standard. My naive assumption is that this would best be done by balancing peak dB levels, or average dB levels across the duration of individual signals. There is no actual "standard" because "loudness is subjective (consider an...

Re: Can't go above -6 dB

Do I assume that different ($$$) software would solve this problem? If so, I guess my solution is to either get a new interface or new software. Hmmmm. The problem will probably not occur if you use software that uses ASIO drivers. From my previous post: You could get different behaviour depending ...
