Re: Generating and playing ultrasound
Generating a 30 kHz sine wave in a 96 kHz sample rate WAv file is easy. 1) Open Audacity 2) Set the project rate (lower left corner of the main Audacity window) to 96000. 3) "Generate menu > Tone" set the frequency to 30000 Hz 4) Export as a 16-bit WAV file. Playing the 30 kHz sine wave ha...

Re: Audacity seems to not play the last 0.2 seconds
In my experience WASAPI has the described problem, so use MME or Windows DirectSound host instead which doesn't. I've just checked with Audacity 2.1.2 in Windows XP and the behaviour there appears to be that the connection to MME or DirectSound remains open until the buffer has been emptied (at lea...

Re: repair dropouts
when set to "truncate to 0.0 seconds" it only reduces a 20 ms dropout to a 6 ms dropout. In the current 2.1.2 version of Audacity, the detected "silence" (below the detection threshold) may be reduced to zero. However, this is academic if the silence between words is "absol...

Re: How to join files together? [SOLVED]
You're welcome. I've marked this topic as "solved" and will lock it now. From working through the steps, you have probably realised that some steps could be missed out for a "rough and ready" job, but these "long steps" are for reliably producing a really good clean edit.

Re: Weird audio issue (windows 10)
I'm listening through the speakers built into the laptop. As you computer speaker system is designed to be used with a "subwoofer", I would expect it to sound "thin" when the subwoofer is not connected. In the windows control panel I disabled the mic, enabled stereo mix and made...

Re: Audacity seems to not play the last 0.2 seconds
It's probably due to the audio being buffered (required to ensure smooth playback) and that Audacity starts and stops its audio stream on demand. For a sound system such as ASIO or Jack in which the audio stream runs continuously, Audacity should play to the very last sample of the selection. For a ...

Re: change 200 wave from mono to stereo
The samples I've bought are 24 bit mono wav. So I can convert them using audacity but I'd like to do it in batches. Audacity can't do the mono to stereo conversion as a batch. The simplest way that I can think of is to use the CD trick described in my previous post. An alternative way is to use SoX...

Re: audacity crashing
im using the recent version of audacity. Check that you have the latest version of Audacity (2.1.2). Look in "Help menu > About Audacity". To download the current version, go here: http://www.audacityteam.org/download/ is audacity not compatiable with windows 10 yet? Yes it is compatible,...

Re: Weird audio issue (windows 10)
Before I made that change in audacity, the sound in recordings from both hypercam and audacity were HORRIBLE. So I dunno.. Didn't you also change something in the Windows Sound Control Panel ? Are you saying I should be using the subwoofer when recording sound? No. How are you listening to the reco...

Re: change 200 wave from mono to stereo
Oops, sorry, I ready your question the wrong way round  I was going stereo to mono. Mono to stereo, no you can't do that in Audacity. I'm curious why you need to. One way that you could do up to 99 files at a time: 1) Make an audio CD using CD writing software that can handle mono 24 bit WAV f...
