Re: Can't delete selection
Playback must be "stopped", not just "paused". Click the Stop button.

Re: 2.1.2 - Timed record under Server 2016 Technical Preview
Personally I like the fact that some users manage to get Audacity working on unsupported platforms. I was just ensuring that you were aware that Server 2016 Technical Preview 5 is not officially supported, and is unlikely to be officially supported unless it is officially supported by wxWidgets.

Audacity is built using wxWidgets, and that does not officially support Windows Server 2016 Technical preview 5.

Re: Adjusting bass/treble
If I use the "Bass and Treble" function to reduce the bass, and then increase it again (possibly making several adjustments in total), will I end up with (close to) the original sound, or will it be degraded in some way (like making a copy of a copy, only with the frequencies)? If the tra...

Re: Have I broken something? :p
I don't think it's anything to worry about. When Audacity calculates the waveform graphic, it looks at the sample values and then scales them according to the vertical height of the image, rounded to the nearest pixel. On my machine, the waveform changes from a 1 pixel height straight line to 2 pixe...

and, because of a bug in Windows wxWidgets which I helped get fixed because of this, even on a single file, had a fair chance of failing to open the text file if it contained Unicode text). Opening LOF files still fail if they contain Unicode character. Example attached (I had to add ".txt&quo...

Re: Have I broken something? :p
None of which explains the poster's apparently displaying quiet work in Waveform view and not dB view. None of the posted audio samples match the waveform images in the original post. The "linear view" image in the first post looks to have "noise" with a peak level of probably a...

Re: bit depth
Audacity does support some low bit-depth formats, such as Microsoft ADPCM (4-bit), u-Law (8-bit) and A-Law (8-bit), but note that these do not correspond directly with low bit-depth "linear PCM" because they are encoded differently. Probably the best way to illustrate the impact on the sou...

Re: Have I broken something? :p
Waveform dB allows you to view all the loudness values available (96dB??), It depends on the version of Audacity and the settings. In Audacity 2.1.2 there is a setting in Preferences to set the dB range for the meters - this setting also controls the "default" dB range for the Waveform dB...

Re: Blue line at 8K, but 8KNotch EQ doesn't remove it
No, I haven't tried a notch filter; I'm not familiar with how to use that yet It's very simple. You just set the notch frequency to the frequency that you want to remove. The "Q" setting is the width of the notch - higher numbers produce a narrower notch (try it with frequency = 8000 and ...
