Re: Questioning the plot spectrum (frequency) analysis

I'm sure Steve knows how awful cheap fiddles can sound at certain keys where the resonance is either exaggerated or nearly cancelled by the strong corpus modes. My main violin is around 120 years old. If it's not tuned to A440 I can hear / feel that it's a bit "off". The way that it vibra...

Re: Peaky notes, EQ and compressor limitations, uncontrollab

Is there a standard order in which effects should be applied? I.e., EQ, compressor, de-esser, limiter.. etc.. With those effects, no there is no standard order, though you will get different results depending on the order that you apply them. The explanation for this is fairly straightforward: (I'm...

Re: Peaky notes, EQ and compressor limitations, uncontrollab

Question 1. RMS compression question: What I did new was at threshold setting.. but should the threshold (when doing RMS compression) be set above the peak per plot spectrum analysis (if so, why?)? Which I guess (the plot spectrum value) is the RMS value for the peak [?]. Example: spectrum shows pe...

Re: File Sizes on Resample

To avoid confusion about version numbers there is a guideline given in the pink box at the top of the page: Please state which version of Windows you are using, the exact three-section version of Audacity from Help > About Audacity Regardless of the reputation of mirror sites, we are not able to gua...

That sounds unlikely.

Do the MP3 files play correctly in iTunes (or whatever your usual media player)?
Have you tried uploading other large files to dropbox (for example a video file)?

Re: File Sizes on Resample

If you do the strict arithmetic, 44100 is only surgically accurate to 17,000 audio, not the generally accepted top end of 20,000. That's one reason people in higher end sound production drop it as a hot rock in favor of higher sample rates such as 96000. I wish you would stop writing that koz - it'...

File and Product Version2.1.2.0? This is the official download page on the Audacity website: http://www.audacity.audio/download/ We cannot guarantee the authenticity of downloads from other websites, so we strongly recommend using the official. 2.1.2.0 is not a genuine version number either. The ac...

Re: Regions

If you click on a "region label" (I presume that is what you mean), then the region defined by the label is selected, but the label text is also "open" so that the text can be edited. You need to "close" the text. Do that by pressing the "Enter" key. To move f...

Re: Questioning the plot spectrum (frequency) analysis

40 hertz peaked! Wow, anyone know how they do that? I'd guess they've got a synth bass drum sound that has a 40 Hz sine as a strong element. An anecdote: Back in the days when Dub reggae was the big thing on the urban / underground live music scene, huge home-made speakers were a common sight (the ...

Listed where? Do you mean it's listed in the Audacity effect menu? or listed in the plug-in manager? or something else?
