Re: Is it possible to do this and what's needed?
Here's your shopping list: 1 small mixer with at least one microphone input, one "line level" input, and a headphone socket. 1 microphone with an XLR lead to plug into the mixer 1 pair of headphones 1 audio player (MP3 player or CD player, or iPod, or similar) for playing the music 1 audio...

Re: Set Sample Rate question
Everything is set correctly when I am listening (and then exporting) the file on Audacity. Its when I re-open the file (on Audacity) that it shows 32-bit float vs. the saved 16-bit PCM That's normal. When Audacity imports audio files, it is not "opening" the file directly, it is copying t...

Re: Help with equalization
A common problem with YouTube tutorials for Audacity is that they rarely tell you which version of Audacity they are using, and usually it's an old/obsolete version. That video is using an old version that does not have the "Manage" button that is now common to all built-in effects (http:/...

Re: Why is Audacity Importing MKV audio at 16bit?
There are significant benefits to working in 32-bit float format. 1) Processing is more precise (better quality) 2) Processing does not produce quantization or dither noise (better quality) 3) If the peak level during processing exceeds 0 dB, the audio is not clipped. 4) If the peak level after proc...

Re: Sample Data Export
Here is a link to the project procedure i am preforming: For future reference, it's useful if you can tell us that from the outset so that we know the context of your question ;) at a frequency resolution high enough to distinguish between room modes (around 1Hz would be good), That is not going to...

Re: Plug-ins being removed/disabled without user initiating?
If you "Group effects by type" in Audacity Preferences, how many plugins are listed under the two "Nyquist" items in the Effect menu?

Re: Sample Data Export
and measure the sound pressure level decay at a high resolution (e.g. 1Hz). That makes no sense. Sound pressure level is not measured in Hz, it's usually measured in dB with reference to 20 uPa. Hz is a unit of frequency. If you're using a 42 Hz sine wave as the sound source, then why do you need t...

Re: Sample Data Export
What are you using as your sound source?
If you used sine tones, then you would only need to measure amplitude over time (easier and more precise).

Re: Sample Data Export
I.e. Sound pressure level over say, 20 - 200Hz, over a recorded time of 5 seconds? Audacity cannot give you "Sound pressure level" (SPL) (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_pressure) To calculate the sound pressure level via Audacity, your "system" (microphone / pre-amp / ...

Re: Sample Data Export
But what frequency does the amplitude represent? Amplitude is not frequency. Amplitude of a sound is how "big" the sound vibrations are and is represented in Audacity as the vertical height of the waveform. Amplitude of a waveform is the measure of the amount of displacement away from the...
