Re: Recording WAV vs. MP3

Also, considering, the MP3 process available free (LAME) may be a lesser type then available when one has paid for some device or program containing MP3 features/technology. There have been many advances in psychoacoustic modelling (the main area where audio data compression improvements are possib...

Re: Background fighting noises

Thanks for telling me that, but is there a way I could amplify or reduce a certain layer of sound in a mixed audio. When the audio was produced within the software there would have been "layers" of sound - the background music, sound effects and speech would have been produced separately,...

Re: Time track

Sorry but I don't recognise what you are referring to. Please post a screenshot. If you are using a version of Windows that has the "snipping tool", there are instructions for how to take a screenshot of the relevant part here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/13776/windows-use-sni...

Re: Help to Analyze and Plot spectrum in Audacity

Try picturing it as physical "things" rather than "frequency components: Imagine that you are collecting berries from a bush and you have several baskets to put the berries in. While you are picking the berries you sort them according to size, so, if you have 3 baskets, then you put t...

Re: How do I convert ogg as 24 bit depth?

Are you wanting to convert from Ogg, or to Ogg? Ogg Vorbis is a lossy compression format and "bit-depth" is not meaningful for such formats. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_bit_depth Bit depth is only meaningful in reference to a PCM digital signal. Non-PCM formats, such as lossy ...

Re: Error Importing Audio from Video Files

There are two stereo streams of 1 minute 52 seconds. You choose which stream to open, one or both, when you import the file into Audacity. The first stream only has a click at 16 seconds. The second stream has commentary from about 20 seconds. I get the same. @Gale On Windows, would it be worth loo...

Re: SoundcloudGroups

Thanks for the suggestion Gale. I wasn't aware of that site until you wrote about it, and I agree that although it's probably not useful for us now, it could be in the future.

Re: SoundcloudGroups

At the moment I don't think that would be particularly useful to us. At present, the only thing that they have in place is a selection of 29 "Genres" that SoundCloud users can subscribe to. Audacity music makers cross the boundaries of genres and we have people creating music of many diffe...

Re: Help to Analyze and Plot spectrum in Audacity

If you look at the vertical scale, you will notice that in both cases they are going down to around -90dB. One way to think of the FFT algorithm (on which the spectrum plot is based), is that it splits the full frequency range into a number of equally spaced "bins". So, as a silly but easy...
