Re: Overloading Input Meters
When one is recording to Audacity from an external line level source (as I am trying to do) within Audacity itself are you supposed to be able to control the levels coming in?? The recording/playback sliders in Audacity are intended as a convenient way to access the recording/playback controls of t...

Re: Exporting file reduced
As a rough rule of thumb. 128 kbps works out at about 0.9MB per minute, so that will give a bit under 30MB for a 30 minute track. 64kbps is half the number of bits per second compared to 129kbps, so that will produce a file half the size of a 128kbps MP3. Try setting the MP3 export format to 64kbps ...

Re: Louder background noise
Both the foreground and background noises are "broadband" (wide range of frequencies) and both have levels that vary in complex ways. Both the "fighting" sound and the foreground voices are centre panned mono (appear equally in left and right channels) whereas the music is stereo...

Re: Overloading Input Meters
Macs of that era had a "Microphone" input that was in reality a line-level input. The only microphone that worked with that input was Apple's microphone with the built-in amplifier. -- Bill Would that be mono or stereo Bill? Was it really "line level" (-10 dBV / +4 dBU), or &quo...

Re: Upgrading from Old version will you lose files
Personally I don't encourage keeping Audacity projects as "projects", because (a) Audacity projects are huge, (b) it is essential that all of the audio data remains available for the project, (c) In old versions of Audacity it is not easy to see if the project is self contained or has &quo...

Re: Bat file to search local Audacity Manual
Steve, did you find a way to append the rest of the help folder path to the default path so it doesn't index your whole machine? Yes, it was very straightforward. On first launch it opens this window: pug1.png As you can see, the default path is my Home folder, so I removed that (select the path th...

Re: Bat file to search local Audacity Manual
Just for an estimate, how big is the index file for the Audacity manual? The database for Puggle seems to be 4.6MB after fully indexing the manual, but note that this is designed as a general purpose Desktop search, so it is probably storing a lot more information than we need. Even so, 4.6MB is a ...
