Re: Saving or Converting to 8-bit Mono for Comcast Phone Sys
So, can I save to 8-bit mono in Audacity? No. You can only "Save" Audacity projects. To create an audio file you need to "Export" not "Save". Yes you can "Export" as 8-bit mono. First you need to ensure that the project is entirely mono. If there are any ster...

Re: Change track speed
Your topic title says "Change track speed", but the "Change Speed" effect is exact, so I guess you don't mean that. As it says in the manual (http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/change_tempo.html#Limitations): Limitations Change Tempo is a time-stretching effect, because it defies...

Re: How to disable automatic scaling
You could use the Home key, or, click anywhere on the track then click the "rewind" << button. I've moved this topic to the "adding features" section as there has been a suggestion of reducing the width of the "magnifier" zone so as to make it easier to click at the sta...

Re: Recording
My guess it that the background noise level is higher than the threshold level for Sound Activated Recording.
Try setting the threshold level higher (smaller negative number). http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tran ... u.html#sar

Re: RMS measurement for large files
Open Nyquist Prompt and paste your snippet. Audacity is using 24.2 MB of RAM. That's a lot lower than my machine. I'm seeing 125 MiB Select 15 minutes in a 1 hour mono sine tone 44100 Hz. OK, so that's about 159 MB of data Open Nyquist Prompt and paste your snippet. Audacity is using 24.2 MB of RAM...

Re: Can I restore a previous save point?
I don't think so. I was amazed to see the overwrite would happen. I think it should be a release blocker, assuming it is a simple and safe change. I've logged the problem here: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1507 and posted a fix here: https://github.com/audacity/audacity/pull/162...

but didn't understand how to -db worked You're not alone. This is a common problem for people that are unfamiliar with audio software. "dB" measurement represents the ratio between one signal level and another. When referring to the level of a signal, it is a ratio of the signal level com...

that's fascinating. So the frequency of the current makes a hum? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mains_hum That's it. A friend that works in a power station told me how they continuously monitor the frequency with extreme accuracy, because, with the enormous power that they generate, even a minute de...
