Re: Reduce or increase pitch without preserving duration

The Change Tempo effect in Audacity 2.1.2, like most other tempo stretching effects, does tend to sound echoey. The "Sliding Time Scale / Pitch Shift" effect is unusual in that it tends to not have this problem, but, it's a bit more complex as it has the start/end settings and tempo/pitch ...

Re: Saving After Chain Effect

To save the changes when running a Chain, you have to add an Export step at the end of the chain (as you have discovered).

I rarely use metadata myself, but some users find it easiest to handle metadata tags using a specialist tag editor (such as Mp3Tag).

Re: Recording Monitor Level?

Cables going from “play out” into headphone jack on HP Pavilion, laptop, A "headphone" socket is of course an "output" rather than an "input". I presume that the socket is a combined headphone / microphone socket, so you are in fact using it as a microphone input. Ther...

Re: Yellow border + unable to click!

A yellow border round the current track is normal. This is on Windows, but you can see a yellow border around the upper track, which indicates that the upper track "has focus" (it's the "current" track): http://manual.audacityteam.org/m/images/b/b8/prejoinsmall.png Is that what y...

Re: Reduce or increase pitch without preserving duration

Generally, I think the effect produced by adjusting the pitch of music or speech without compensating for the change in tempo is a fairly popular one (I've heard it used in music and for dramatic/comedic purposes). Yes, I agree it's popular/useful for dramatic / comedic purposes, but in this case i...

Re: Reduce or increase pitch without preserving duration

I've installed it and it is indeed convenient! :D If this functionality were to be incorporated into an existing effect, perhaps adding a single checkbox to the Change Pitch effect (e.g., "Maintain tempo", checked by default) would be preferable to (and possibly more intuitive than) addin...

Re: Reduce or increase pitch without preserving duration

Perhaps there is a feature request here for those who don't want to get their calculator out? A pitch change control for Change Speed has three prior votes on Wiki Feature Requests. Not many I know, and perhaps you Steve would regard that as clutter? No it's not many, and I'd imagine that for most ...

Re: Reduce or increase pitch without preserving duration

"Change Speed" is the effect, but it does not have "semitones" as input units. To calculate the "change in speed" (assuming twelve-tone equal temperament ) is: 2^(pitch/12) The "change in speed" is simply a ratio - it's the "Speed multiplier". So for...

10 hours of uncompressed audio data requires a lot of disk space (at the default 32-bit float, about 12.5 GB for a stereo track)

Re: Audacity cannet see Alesis iO2 as a USB source on Win10

Audacity is shipped without ASIO support, so unless you intend to use the Alesis iO2 with an application that supports ASIO, then I'd recommend that you remove the ASIO drivers. Look in the Windows Sound Control Panel to see if the Alesis iO2 is enabled and working (if it is working correctly, you s...
