Audacity can import / export Ogg files.
For importing / exporting WEBM (a video format) or OPUS (an audio format) you need to have FFmpeg installed (see http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_ ... tml#ffdown)

Re: Half speed playback on file from arecord
Does playing back files from arecord work fine for you? Yes. Maybe the recording device is not actually recording in the format it says or is broken in some other way? You can check that with "MediaInfo". It should be available in the Ubuntu repository (the GUI version is probably easiest...

Re: Export Multiple with project, or selected, time length
You need to add a bit of silence to the start of all tracks so that all tracks have a start time of 0.0.
A quick way to do that:
A quick way to do that:
- Click on a track
- Ctrl + A (select all)
- Rewind button (or Home key)

Most mixing desks allow you to monitor the sound that is going into the desk. This has nothing to do with Audacity or even being connected to a computer - you should be able to monitor the input to the desk via headphones plugged into the desk even without the desk being connected to the computer. I...

Re: Glitches in audio
Where is the project data stored? Your description reminds me of a time when I had a project on a USB thumb drive which was causing read errors. I was lucky and able to copy the data onto my hard drive before the thumb drive failed.

Re: Shared mode and mixer interference, if any
That's just a guess, obviously. Curious as to their logic is all. My guess is that on modern processors, floating point calculations are more efficient than integer, and with 32 or 64 bit processing, the "extra" 8 bits is a non-issue, so it makes sense to handle the audio as 32-bit float ...

Re: new behavior after splitting stereo tracks
The "Channel Mixer" plug-in has settings for widening tracks without the need to split the track: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyqui ... nnel_Mixer

How about creating a label track with equidistant labels? http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/regu ... abels.html
When selecting (click and drag) from one label position to the next, you should notice a weak "snap" to the label position and a yellow vertical line appear.
